Our history

Gofal Ystwyth Care was founded on a strong family ethos of compassion and service. After moving to Wales from Kenya, our founder Nancy Njeri Cross began her journey in the care sector as a domiciliary care worker. Her commitment, problem-solving skills, and natural empathy earned her promotion to care coordinator, then deputy care manager—supported by the completion of her Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care Services.

Seeing areas of improvement in the care sector, and the need to implement policies and procedures that would safeguard both the employees and service users, Nancy was encouraged by her family and colleagues to create something better. With their backing, she established Gofal Ystwyth Care (GYC), a company built on respect, dignity, and genuinely person-centred care. Her daughter, Ann, joined the company while still at university, and together they grew the business from two private service users to a regulated care provider. Over a three-year period, GYC overcame numerous barriers to become a trusted name in West Wales. Today, the company delivers over 1500 hours of care per week, with a team of more than 35 trained staff.

Our services

Gofal Ystwyth Care is a registered domiciliary care provider offering professional, high-quality care across West Wales, with services delivered in service users’ own homes and in settings such as the Maes y Môr Extra Care scheme.

We support individuals aged 18 and over, including:

  • Older adults and those who are frail or vulnerable

  • People living with dementia or other cognitive and memory-related conditions

  • Individuals with physical or sensory disabilities

  • Adults with mental health needs or learning disabilities (excluding complex challenging behaviour)

  • Those recovering from illness or receiving palliative or end-of-life care

Our services range from providing primary support — such as personal hygiene, meal preparation, and companionship — to specialist care. Regardless of the level of care required, we take pride in offering a person-centred, responsive approach tailored to each individual.

Our approach

Our work is guided by the values and principles of the Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Act 2014, which places the individual at the centre of their care and support. We are committed to enabling people to achieve their personal well-being outcomes through care that is tailored, respectful, and empowering.

All our care plans are created in partnership with the individual, their representatives, and relevant professionals. We promote independence, dignity, and choice, while ensuring that care is delivered safely, professionally, and in line with regulatory standards. Our staff receive rigorous training—including in safeguarding, equality, and communication—and are supported in their continuous professional development.

At Gofal Ystwyth Care, we believe that care is not just a service—it’s a relationship based on trust, empathy, and respect. Our goal is always to deliver the highest standard of care, in a way that makes people feel valued, supported, heard, and at home in their own lives.

At Gofal Ystwyth Care, our logo is more than just an image — it represents the heart of what we do. With its warm, welcoming design, the imagery reflects a sense of home, safety, and human connection — values at the core of our care. Our strapline, “Safe at Home,” captures our commitment to delivering person-centred support that allows individuals to remain in the comfort and familiarity of their own homes, surrounded by dignity and respect. As a proudly Welsh care provider, we are continually striving to deliver a fully bilingual service, recognising the importance of language, culture, and identity within the communities we support.

Our approach

Working in Partnership

Great care doesn’t happen in isolation — it happens through collaboration.

Our partnerships
Local Authority & Health Teams

We work closely with Local Authorities, Social Services, local health boards, district nurses, occupational therapists, personal assistants, housing providers, and wider health and social care professionals. By maintaining open communication and shared care planning, we ensure every individual receives coordinated, responsive support tailored to their needs.

Shaping the Sector

Our commitment extends beyond day-to-day care. Our Director serves as a board member of the Homecare Association (HCA), contributing to sector development and helping raise standards across the wider care community.

Regulated & Accountable

As a regulated provider, we welcome regular inspections from Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW). We see regulation as an opportunity — not just to meet standards, but to continually improve and demonstrate the quality of our services.

Transparency & Quality

We believe in being open about the standard of care we provide.

We regularly review and assess our services to ensure we are delivering safe, effective, and person-centred support. We also welcome independent inspection as part of our commitment to accountability and continuous improvement.

Our team

At Gofal Ystwyth Care, we are committed to maintaining the highest professional standards across our workforce.

We actively support our team to meet the requirements of Social Care Wales (SCW) — the regulator of the social care workforce in Wales. All eligible care workers and managers are required to register with SCW, demonstrating that they are suitable to work in social care and committed to upholding the Code of Professional Practice for Social Care.

Training & Qualifications

We provide comprehensive induction training, ongoing professional development, and fully supported pathways to recognised qualifications, including Level 2, 3, and 5 Health and Social Care awards.

Our team members are encouraged and supported to maintain their registration, complete Continuing Professional Development (CPD), and continually improve their skills.

Accountable & Professional

Registration with Social Care Wales means our staff are accountable to nationally recognised standards of behaviour, conduct, and competence. It provides reassurance to the individuals and families we support that care is delivered by trained, regulated professionals who understand what is expected of them.

Professional development isn’t just a requirement — it’s part of who we are.
