Precious Botu

Domiciliary care worker team leader

I joined Gofal Ystwyth Care in April 2022 as a carer and have since progressed to senior carer and now team leader — a journey that’s been both challenging and deeply rewarding. From the outset, I’ve been supported by a management team that offers clear guidance, flexibility, and a genuine commitment to personal and professional development.

The training is excellent, and I’ve gained valuable qualifications, including Levels 2 and 3 in Health and Social Care, with more to come. Working here has helped me grow, build meaningful relationships, and feel proud of the difference we make.

If you’re passionate about helping others, care work at GYC is one of the most fulfilling roles you can take on.

Training & qualifications

All new team members receive a comprehensive induction, including core training in:

  • Personal care and safe working practices

  • Health and Safety

  • First Aid

  • Infection control

  • Medication administration and recording

  • Safeguarding of Vulnerable Adults (SOVA)

  • All Wales manual handling Passport

  • Communication and dignity in care – Professional communication practices (PCP)

In addition to initial training, we support every member of our team to achieve the required nationally recognised qualifications including the Level 2 and 3 QCF in Health and Social Care. GYC also supports all team members with their application to register with Social Care Wales (recognised public record of social care professionals). GYC takes pride in offering it’s team members the opportunity to develop and progress their careers with the potential completion of the Level 4 and 5 qualifications.

We also provide ongoing Continuing Professional Development (CPD), specialist training opportunities (e.g. dementia care, end-of-life care (Palliative), catheter/colostomy and PEG support), and a culture that promotes career growth and learning.

When I started at GYC in April 2023, I was still finishing my marketing degree — I never expected the role to shape me so profoundly. I began as a carer and have since progressed to team leader, supported every step of the way with training, encouragement, and genuine flexibility. What stands out most is how GYC supports you as a person, not just in your role. I’ve gained confidence, leadership skills, and a real sense of purpose. Working here feels like being part of a family, and making a difference — even in the smallest ways — is incredibly fulfilling. If you’re considering care, I’d say it’s one of the most rewarding and meaningful paths you can take.
